Self Study 4 - Game Ideas

Game Idea 1.

A first person movement/parkour game where the player has to use a grappling hook to swing around the environment to dodge enemies and get to the end of the level. The main mechanics would be the use of the grappling hook to swing and gain momentum and when on the ground, being able to slide across the ground while keeping momentum. The levels would be indoors with a lot of twists and turns but also larger areas for the player to gain momentum by swinging or sliding to make it past big gaps. Enemies would include stationary gun turrets that would shoot if you were in their line of sight for too long and flying drones that chase you with blades.

This game would  be suited for people who are familiar with FPS games such as Counter Strike or Apex Legends as they heavily depend on movement but want a casual experience more focused on movement. While these games are known for their gunplay, their movement systems also elevate them to another level as there is a high skill ceiling to mastering the movement and contributes greatly to ones success. I believe the game would be successful as it combines aspects from good games such as Spiderman/Apex Legends (swinging) and Counter Strike (Air movement) but make them the main focus of the game. While there aren't many parkour/movement games similar to this idea, I believe thats because the focus on good first person movement systems in games has only came about in the past 10 years.

Game Idea 2.

Espionage game where the player has to infiltrate a heavily guarded area by utilizing and controlling things connected to the networks without killing anyone. The player would be able to control drones, mechs, cameras, and security systems (doors, alarms, turrets) to create diversions that would attract guards to investigate, annoy them to make them move or to knock them out. They would also be able to control them to access restricted areas which may contain buttons or switches that to allow the player to progress.

This game would be suited to those who have played games like Splinter Cell, Metal Gear Solid and Deus Ex which are focused on diversion and tactics using the environment rather than overtly attacking. What would differentiate this idea from those games is a more expanded focus on the systems the player can use and less on gunplay or overtly attacking. I believe this would be successful as it relies less on ones ability to aim and shoot and rather a person ability to think of tactics using the tools that are presented to them that don't limit their thinking to only a few options.
